But it wasnt all plain sailing – en route to F1 success, Surtees came close to disaster in both his motor racing roles; facing death in the driving seat and financial ruin as Formula One team owner and Grand Prix car constructor.

But in typical Surtees fashion, all of these obstacles were overcome and Gentleman John now lives in stylish retirement, surrounded by one of the worlds finest collection of classic racing motorcycles.
