Disabled Access

Everyone is welcome at the National Motorcycle Museum

We want as many people as possible to enjoy a visit to the Museum. We recognise that accessibility needs are different for everyone and that not all disabilities are visible. Whether you have mobility, sensory, communication or other access requirements, or need additional support during your visit, we’re happy to help you plan your visit.

Car parking is completely free at the National Motorcycle Museum and we are able to offer parking spaces for disabled visitors close to the Museum’s main entrance.

Non-visible disabilities

We recognise that not all disabilities are visible. Visitors may have a range of needs relating to anxiety, PTSD, autism, ADHD, mental health conditions or other disabilities.

If you need to take a break during your visit, leave the Museum and return later, have someone accompany you, or need additional support from our team, please speak to a member of staff.

If knowing what to expect would help you plan your visit, please contact us before you arrive. We’re happy to answer questions about the Museum, including the layout, noise levels, busy periods and facilities.

Assistance dogs

Assistance dogs are welcome throughout the National Motorcycle Museum.

This includes guide dogs, hearing dogs and other trained assistance dogs supporting people with disabilities, including psychiatric and PTSD assistance dogs.

If you are planning to visit with an assistance dog and have any questions about your visit, please contact us in advance and we’ll be happy to help you plan your visit.

Sensory considerations

The Museum is home to more than 1,000 motorcycles on display, creating a unique environment with a mixture of lighting, sounds and activity. On event days, the Museum can be particularly busy.

Some motorcycles may be started or operated during special events, which can create loud or unexpected sounds.

If you have sensory sensitivities or would like advice about the quietest times to visit, please contact us before your visit.

Taking a break

You don’t have to complete your visit in one go. The Museum’s foyer food court provides a separate space where you can take a break from the collection before returning to the galleries.

If you need to step outside or take some time away from the Museum during your visit, please speak to a member of our team.

Mobility access

  • Designated disabled parking spaces close to the Museum entrance.
  • Step-free access to the Museum.
  • Wheelchair/disabled buggy access to most areas.
  • A limited number of wheelchairs are available on free loan. These chairs are allocated on a first come first served basis.
  • Accessible toilets on the ground floor.
  • Café and shop are on the ground floor.
  • Please contact us in advance if you have specific mobility requirements.
