BOOK LAUNCH & WD/MILITARY BIKE RIDE-IN

BOOK LAUNCH & WD/MILITARY BIKE RIDE-IN

The National Motorcycle Museum will host the launch of a new book “The Six Day Affair” by John Bradshaw on Saturday 02/08/14.

Held in the Museum Foyer the author will be available to sign copies and discuss this fascinating new title which concerns the 1939 ISDT which was underway in Austria the week prior to the outbreak of WW2.

Following the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, the ISDT was seen by Hitler as being another opportunity for Nazi dominance and the 1939 ISDT was unexpectedly held in Austria, riding through the mountains surrounding Salzburg. Half way through the event, with the British teams once again doing very well indeed, they received a telegram from the British Embassy telling them to get out immediately. WWII started just a week later.

The book is the story of how the British riders – men and women, army and civilian – successfully made it away through Switzerland with the help of their friendly German escort has so far only been mentioned in magazine articles, but extensive research has revealed much new material about this fascinating and exciting event in history.

Costing £12.00 the book will be available to purchase from the Museum shop or online via www.thenmmshop.co.ukfollowing the event on 02/08/14

 WD/ISDT/Trials Machines “Ride-In” & Display.

To coincide with the launch of this book whose main themes are both WW2 & ISDT we are inviting owners of WD/Military or ISDT/Trials machines to ride in or bring them along to display in front of the Museum Entrance on 02/08/14. Riders displaying these machines will receive half price entry to the Museum collection.

In keeping with both the anniversary of the start of WW1 as well as the 70th anniversary of the

D-Day landings we will be delighted to see as many WD machines as possible to help commemorate the brave servicemen & women who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

The National Motorcycle Museum Supports the “Pilgrim Bandits” charity which helps ex- service personal. The Museum will be making a donation to Pilgrim Bandits for each WD/Military machine that is displayed on the day.

Steve Parrish MAD Tour
1930-2130

Steve Parrish MAD Tour
Enjoy the life and times of Steve Parrish (Stavros) which provide a completely different, colorful, humorous and, at times daring portrayal of this man’s career.
Steve Parrish raced at the highest level of motorcycle racing, with his highest finish coming in the 1977 500cc Grand Prix season, as team mate to that year’s champion Barry Sheene. Barry who met Steve in 1975 is quoted as saying “if he was to set up his bike as well as his victims and had put as much effort into the bike as he did the intricate pranks he pulled on people he would certainly of been a World Champion.”
Steve then dabbled with sports car racing before moving to truck racing “because it was less painful than riding bikes” where he won 5 European Truck Racing titles.
Steve was the BBC commentator for Moto GP and is now a pundit for BTs coverage of the sport. He has been commentating since 1988, but he is equally famous in the world of motorsport for his pranks, and the real reason for this show.
With a life full of scrapes, near misses and funnies, including riding Barry Sheen’s bike to qualifying for the world champion, filling rooms of sports personalities with live frogs, and jumping hire cars from second floor car parks in Daytona onto the beach.
The list is endless and all will be revealed in a non-stop show, bringing smiles to audience’s faces. His antics have led to a visit from “Beadles About” and have also seen him locked up in a Hong Kong jail for blowing up a brothel.
Steve flies his own 4 seat aircraft, plays golf badly, shoots clays, hosts track days and even has an entry in the Guinness Book of Records, he attends after dinner events as a guest speaker, all of which offer more opportunities and more victims.
Joining Steve on stage and leading the proceedings will be Steve’s daughter Frankie, who has lived with her father’s antics and the embarrassment’s that it brings, for example being driven to school in a car which number plate reads “PENI5”
Join Steve as he delivers a fantastically funny evening of true life fun stories who knows, you may even get some ideas ! ( Venue Information )

To book , please call 0121 704 2784 tickets are priced at £20.00pp and include entrance to the museum exhibits , hot food and a bar will be available to purchase on the evening-suitable for 14 years and over only.
